It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the death of one of Richland Two's longest serving and highly respected administrators. Mr. Terry McCoy, passed away Sunday evening. Mr. McCoy (an Assistant Administrator at Richland Northeast High School who also served as the Director of Student Activities) joined the Richland Two family in 1969; he had taught at Dentsville High School and served as the Student Activities Director at Spring Valley High School before joining the Richland Northeast faculty when the school opened in 1978.
In September, he was diagnosed with liver cancer. Mr. McCoy is survived by a sister and hundreds of present and former students who got their first major opportunities for leadership under his nurturing eye. He was 61 years old.
The Terry A. McCoy Leadership Scholarship has been established in his honor. The scholarship will be awarded to students who exhibit the strength of leadership and character that Terry sought to instill in us," said Robert Dozier Jr, scholarship organizer (Class of 1986).
Donations should be sent to: Terry A. McCoy Leadership Scholarship, 2711 Middleburg Drive Suite 213, Columbia, SC 29204. Students who contribute are asked to include the year they graduated on their checks.
McCoy was a great leader to thousands of students throughout the years, including several Elkins. I have yet to meet a student that went to Richland Northeast and did not have the up most respect of Mr. McCoy. RNE will not be the same without a master in charge of student activities. We will miss you TMAC.
