What happened to fall?
This is now my third fall in Utah, and I have to say where did it go? Yesterday it was 90 degrees and windy, today the high was maybe 47 degrees. It is like we skipped from summer to winter in 12 hours. I just don't understand how that is possible. Fall is my favorite season, and I seem to always get robbed of a long fall. This afternoon we had a soccer game and it started to SNOW!!!! It didn't stick and it only lasted for a few minutes, but come on, last day of September and snow. I was freezing, I was not quite prepared for the low 40s and high 30 degree temperature that we were playing in. I felt so bad for my team, but they stuck it out and got a huge win for us today. We are one game away for qualifying for the state playoffs for the first time in many, many years.

Region Victory
Taylorsville was stuck in the hardest region in the state for soccer last year, two teams from our region played for the state championship. We were lucky that when they changed the regions, the soccer schedule became much easier. We still have to play some really great teams, but not the top two teams in the state. Our team has had some adversities, to say the least, and we haven't played up to our potential yet. Finally yesterday we played really well and won 4-2, I'm hoping that they became a team and build on this win. Taylorsville hasn't won a region game in at least four years, so it was a big win for them.

Don't forgot those who survived
When something tragic happens, we often forget to think about those that survive, and always remember those that didn't. I'm no different, I think I can honestly say I have never truly given much thought to those that survived the attacks on 9/11, and what there life must be like. I would have massive guilt, I know I would. This video really made me think about those that survived and made it out of the buildings on that September day.
None of us are going to forget what happened on that day, but we do need to learn from it. My students were in third grade in 2001, they didn't have a clue of what was going on. I had just walked out of 11th grade English class, when a friend walked up to ask me if I knew what was going on. By the time I walked into my next class, the first tower had just collapsed. Heck, I was in high school, and I didn't completely understand what was going on, but I never want to forget.

Excuse me while I rant for a minute
I have never really considered myself a democrat or really all that liberal (I'm more down the middle) but right now I am so confused at all the mess the Republicans are making with President Obama's speech to school children. If you haven't heard Obama is going to give a speech next Tuesday to the children of the country, doesn't seem like a big deal at all to me, but everyone is freaking out. Maybe it is because I live in one of the most conservative states in the union, but it is just a speech, CALM DOWN!!!! Each school district is trying to figure out how to handle the situation, we have to send a letter home to the parents letting them know we are going to show the speech, but some districts are not even showing it. I just don't understand this, we were encouraged to show President Obama's inauguration, but now we have to get parent permission to show an address given by the President intended for the students. When did we start censoring the President of the United States? This is the first time (I think) that the President has specifically addressed the children parents don't want the children to watch it. I don't agree with everything Obama has done, but he is the President and I'm going to watch it. I can sort of understand not wanting elementary school students to watch it, but really they aren't going to have much of a clue what is going on, so who cares.

School Spirit Help
For whatever reason my school struggles to have school spirit, which is something I just don't understand. I grew up with Orange and Blue running in my veins before I knew anything about high school. My goal is to increase the school spirit at my school now. Taylorsville is a great school, and yes we struggle in some sports, but they also don't have the support they need. I want there to be a crazy student section that never sits down and is always cheering, no matter what the score is. This is going to be a big project, but I'm willing to slowly work on it.
I think I'm going to be the advisor to the "Superfan Club", which is basically the school spirit club and I need suggestions on what we could do. The school sells these cool Superfan shirts that a lot of students have, but I want more than just students wearing the same shirt. So if any of you guys have any great ideas for cheers, activities, or really anything, PLEASE let me know. I want these students to have as much pride in Taylorsville, that I have in Richland Northeast.
