ESL...nope I teach Core
If you happened to look in my 4th period class you might make a mistake and think that I teach an ESL World History class. But you would be mistaken, I teach core history with a large amounts of students that happen to be ESL and two that don't speak a word of English. Here is a list of languages spoken in that class besides English: Farsi, Hindi, Chinese, Somali, Spanish, and Vietnamese. I normally don't mind having one or two ESL students, they normally are not a problem. This group is tough because only a couple of them and can the same assignments as everyone else, so I have to give an alternate assignment for everything I assign. Oh and two of them do not speak a word of English. Actually it is really cool to have them in class, I know a few of them are refugees and it is great they were able to escape some of the crazy problems they have had to face, I just don't know how to teach someone 10th grade history if they don't speak any English.
